Once Upon a Day

Where is the marsh harrier heading when it roams across the fields one May morning? Does God really have the eurasian skylark on a string? And why does the western jackdaw bop their heads like some eccentric actor?

In Once Upon a Day, Tomas Bannerhed depicts an ordinary day in early Spring, from the first notes of the song thrush at dawn  to the shadowlike fleeing of the eurasian woodcock at dusk. On his walk around the island by the lake that he has made his own, he finds a myriad of birds, plants and human faiths – nature’s exuberance which lies closer than the townsfolk could ever imagine.

Exquisitely illustrated by Mattias Bäcklin, Once Upon a Day is a declaration of love for life itself and a lyrical exploration of the humanity of nature.
